Green Alternative Lunch Transportation

While many families are used to the convenience of using brown bags to pack their kids lunches, recent studies found that even in the bags with ice packs, less than 2% of the meals that contained perishable items such as meat and cheese sandwiches were in a safe temperature zone; more than 90% were kept at unsafe temperatures where bacteria can multiply and foodborne illness is more likely to occur.

Many questions still exist regarding the safety of food storage in plastic. Researchers have found that dangerous chemicals in plastics can leach into food and be dangerous to our health. So as conscious consumers, why wouldn't we want to opt for a "green" alternative for transporting our lunches? I recently came across a company called PlanetBox that sells uniquely designed eco-friendly stainless steel lunchboxes for kids. Yes, stainless steel is a great alternative to paper or plastic and is definitely safer for the environment as well. Their fun lunch carrier design has many different compartments which encourages packing a healthy, well-balanced lunch while accommodating many different food preferences.

PlanetBox went a step further and designed a full line of magnets that could be attached to these fun lunchboxes so that they would be durable enough to last for years, but flexible enough to stay “fresh” and grow with your child’s changing interests. They even designed a carry bag (independently certified to be safe from lead, phthalates, and BPA) to comfortably hold their stainless steel box with a handy mesh pouch on the inside to easily hold an ice pack to keep food items cold and extra pouches on the outside to hold a water bottle and any other snack items. This one would make a great gift item for anyone!!

  1. I love this idea! When i was a kid there wasn't really a worry about how safe or the temperature my food was when ate lunch at school. I always went to school with my little plastic lunch box or if it was dirty a paper bag. I think it's important to keep my kids safe (when I have them) and I love the idea of the magnets so they know what they are diving into! Thanks for sharing!
