Natural Remedies from Home to Soothe a Baby's Colic


Does your baby suffer from Colic? There are many natural home remedies to soothe a baby's colic, some are as close as your kitchen. You can try a few of the following suggestions to see which works best for you and your baby. This information is solely for informational purposes and is not intended to provide medical advice.

Chamomile tea - Herbal remedies for colic such as chamomile combines antispasmodic and sedative properties and may relieve intestinal cramping and induce relaxation at the same time.  Bring the chamomile herbal tea to room temperature before giving to infant in a bottle. A nursing mother may also drink the tea, unless she is allergic to pollens.

Soy Products - Some studies have shown an improvement in colic after dairy products have been removed from the baby's diet. Try eliminating dairy products for up to two weeks and switch to a soy based formula such as Earth's Best Organic Soy Infant Formula. You may also want to change to a soy product especially if you are breastfeeding. If you don't notice a change in baby's behavior, assume that dairy products are not a problem.

Fiber - Studies have suggested that colic may improve in certain infants when fiber is added to their formula. Anywhere from one-half teaspoon three times a day to one-half teaspoon six times a day seemed to do the trick. Start by adding small amounts of fiber to your baby's formula, and build up to higher doses. This remedy may not be the answer for every baby, but adding a little fiber is safe and worth a try.
